And now one of my favorites of all time: Randy Spears This top photo is Randy West and Tori Welles. Randy W. is looking reasonably hot and buff, but below is my boy Randy Spears, who makes many more appearances in "The Book". The two photos together have some nice symmetry i guess, but it's really all about Mr. Spears for me. The way he's grabbing the girls ass while staring down at her in this photo seems...convincing I guess? He at least seems caught up in the moment. Also note the cigarettes on the bedstand...nice touch huh? Randy always kinda seemed like that guy who got all the girls and you'd be jealous of, but he was also so normal looking...very guy next door. I thought he had a perfect body: muscly, but natural looking too. And that awesome hairy chest....I still think about him in the shower..... Randy Spears was one of very few straight male porn stars of the time that had a wide enough appeal that he could appear in solo videos supposedly marketed toward women (he was in two: "Stud Squad" (out of print) and "Straight to Bed" (Catalina). The 6 photos of him I posted are early internet finds from a time where there were no sites dedicated to male porn stars. He stood out not only to me I guess. Now he has a yahoo fan site called "Spear me Randy".

This is Randy West, getting what I alway thought looked like an amazing blow job from some girl. Its that snarl on his face.... The girly parts were a little prominent for my tastes, but I still thought it was a hot photo. I'm not sure who the other guy is. Randy was a staple of straight porn at the time and was in hundreds of movies. He had a good body, big cock and had that 80's private investigator look. With his mustache I liked him, but I thought he looked weird without it.

Jake Taylor

I'll return to "The book", but this blog is supposed to be about gay porn....so lets talk about my first gay porn crush. Jake Taylor was a mid 90's porn star who worked mostly for Catalina (now managed by Channel One). He was hairy (quite unusual back then), which made him jump off the box at me when I wandered into the all male section of the porn store. "The Best of Jake Taylor" was the first gay porn I ever bought and kept (I think I bought a few others but threw them away in gay shame, coupled with frustration that the guys were not to my liking). The first scene is an all oral number with Dane Tarsen that I must have watched thousands of times. The fact that there was no butt-sex made it a little easier for me to deal with...I'd never actually been with a guy at this point and was still freaked out by anal anything. In retrospect the one-camera cinematography and awkward scene jumps are intolerable by today's standards, but that scene was my gold standard for a while. The photos below are Jake from a variety of films, including Blow Hard, Code of Conduct by Falcon, and a few I can't identify.

The next page featured a nameless goateed guy from one of those glossy, expensive sex mags you can only get in porn stores. I loved this photo of him getting a blow job on the couch, probably shot in some dingy midwestern garage. Clearly white trash, something about this guy's expression plus the touch of the redhead's cross necklace on his thigh got me all tingly down there. I have no idea who he is and I never saw him in anything again. The photos above him are an unknown couple on the left and Ray Victory and some starlet on the right. I pasted those pics up there to cover up some picture of the redhead that I didn't like (probably focusing on her not him). This is where the amateurish scrapbooking aspect if the book becomes apparent. Ray Victory was another favorite of mine...more on him later.

The Book, page 1, Steve Drake

When I was a budding gay in high school (and not quite sure how to deal with the fact that I was a budding gay), I would scour straight porn for hot guys. Anyone who tried this in the early 90's knows that there were very few hot guys in straight porn, so it really was a time intensive labor of love in the pre-internet days. It mostly involved a lot of disappointing late night purchases from magazine stands and porno shops. So, rather than keep bundles of disjointed pornography under my bed that would surely be discovered by my snooping mother, my solution was to take the hottest images I could find, then paste, tape or staple them rather amateurishly inside a book that I thought my parents would never open. It was a book called "Gods and Goddesses" from a Time/Life series called "The Enchanted World". Not only was it unlikely to be nabbed off the shelves, but in my teenage mind thought the choice was a little funny in a tongue in cheek sort of way (I was 16...give me some leeway). In some of the scans you can see tidbits of book in the margins. The bit of prose captured are often nearly as apropos/comical as the ridiculous porn type that accompanies the photos. The beginning of this blog will be a trip through this book, which I have always wanted to preserve for the insight it gives into my horny pre-gay teenage mind. The blurry focus is clearly on the guys, but I must warn you, there is some vaj.
